Lentil Dahl

is DELICIOUS, and so easy to do. All you need are about 500g of red lentils, an onion, garlic, ginger, mustard seeds and coriander. Finely chop the garlic and ginger and whack it in a pan, leave that to cook for a bit and fuck this, I’m going to make a video of it.

Sounds exiting! I can't wait! And no, I'm not being sarcastic. (That last sentence wasn't sarcastic either, but perhaps this on is. It probably isn't though. Okay, I'm going to stop trying to be funny now and… do something… else.. I guess.)

Making a video sounds like a much better way to explain this dish. :)

Yum can't wait. I take it you have appropriate headpiece for a cooking video, albeit toque or net. ;)

I like your use of commas. You remind me strongly of one of my musician friends. When you didn't write your blog I missed it like a tree misses it's leaves in winter, the tree knows the leaves will come back but not exactly when. Thank you for making it spring time. I hope that made you smile just a little bit.

HA. I was watching your video, and I decided to check your blog to see if you had put up a new post about the video or something, and by the time the page opened, it was at the point in the video where you read this out, so it was like the voice in my head was reading in your voice, only it wasn't, it was just the video. (I'm trying out this extremely-long-sentence stream-of-consciousness thing… I'm not sure it's a good writing style for me, it just makes me sound sort of stupid. I swear I'm not as stupid as I seem in this comment. And now I'm rambling, so I sound not only stupid, but a little crazy as well, and I could just retype this whole thing, but I think it's more real this way, so I'm going to leave it.)

…I apologize for the thought-vomit. I'm going to say that I'm tired (even though I'm not actually tired at all, but you won't know that since you can't see me through the screen) because claiming exhaustion is the perfect excuse for everything.

I want to make it, but my bear is roaming free in my kitchen. And I think I left my Lentils in the Big Cake Room. Damn.

I loved the video so much I went to see if I had any of the ingredients cos that actually does look REALLY good (despite what Ed said :P ) but, alas, the only ingredient that I could find was the onion…I guess I'll just have to make a trip to the store at some point so I can make it :]

the bit with the 90% household accidents was by far the highlight, though in my mind I was watching you juggeling the knives as you said that – would have been far funier (untill you didn't catch one right)

I'm generally easily pleased, but the fact that this overlapped with the dialogue from the actual video makes me want to pee myself a little. You're so uncommonly witty and altogether fun to be able to watch. Cheers!

Btw where did you get that etymology for Coriander?

“The Greek name exists in several variant forms, e.g., korion [??????] in Dioskurides and koriadna [????????????????????] in Mycenaean Greek. It is usually put into relation with koris [?????] bug, because of the aroma of the leaves, but it is more probably a loan from an ancient Mediterranean tongue and might be distantly related to Greek karon [?????] cumin.

and also,
“Coriander was named after the bedbug emitting the same odor.”
