New project

Something else that I failed to mention earlier is that I’ve got this new project that I’m working on called Nowhere Near News, my podcast with Tom Bacon where we dissect idiotic women’s weeklies and get progressively more pissed off and suicidal; it’s funny, and hopefully will continue to be so past the third episode. Hooray!

(Oh, and by the way, did you ever see this?)

Wait— you guys have a PODCAST? I *love* podcasts. I only wish Craig and Todd would update theirs more often. Subscribed. I like podcasts, besides their entertainment value, I find they're good for getting me away from my computer so I can do the mundane task of cleaning my apartment.

Additionally – the title to this video was much more humorous when I began to watch it.

I subscribed to the podcast! The first episode was great; I actually laughed out loud (which is a rare thing for me).

And yes, I did see that. I don't remember where or how or why, but I most definitely did see it before. Slightly painful to the ears.

Also, I'm glad you're updating your blog again! I hope you keep blogging more frequently, I like hearing what you have to say.

I subscribed to the podcast. I'll be stuck in the car for five hours tomorrow so it will kill some time. :)

from there you can download the m4a file and it'll play in QuickTime and you can see snippets of what they're giving themselves brain hemorrhages over.

or just click the little blue circle in the itunes link above. (I don't have itunes either)

I did enjoy your podcast – especially the musical stings, but…

Skeleton crosswords aren't much harder than normal crosswords, once you understand that you have to fill in the shaded squares first. That's why the symmetry info is needed. You're meant to pencil in your answers first and use them to figure out others until you've completed the grid.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossword#Diagraml

But because they are harder than normal crosswords and look a bit daunting, the normal crossword is sometimes a bit easier to compensate.

The stories about weird operations and other body stuff isn't much different front the gory injury bits in Nuts magazine. The stories about sad things that happened to people are in there for the same reason soaps exist.

They are brightly coloured and tease the odd stories on the front because the market is so crowded, not least because these magazines are cheap to make. Stories are bought from readers for next to nothing, puzzles aren't expensive to make and the rest is adverts – probably for supermarkets, household goods, low-fat snacks and bio-yoghurts.

They aren't for idiots or made by idiots but they are lowest-common denominator because they need to sell in massive numbers to turn a profit. If you got all your worldly knowledge from these magazines and tabloids then you probably wouldn't be a great conversationalist, but you wouldn't be a dunce.

Fancy not knowing what a skeleton crossword was!

I've got no idea why I felt like telling you all this, most of it is informed guesswork – I'm just a media graduate.
