”Pokemon, What Happened To You?’, What Happened To You?’

So while I was in the studio recording Alex Day’s fantastic new EP ’117% Complete’, probably the best EP about video games I’ve ever had the pleasure to produce, we listened to a lot of different things for inspiration and guidance. In particular when working on ‘Pokemon, What Happened To You?’, we listened to a lot of the old music from the games over the years and a lot of music related to the shows that listeners might recognise. While doing this research, we came across this gem:

Now, we were stopped in our tracks by this. We realised that in every song to do with pokemon ever released, there had always been this rapper, doing his business in the background. Mostly consisting of repeated mantras of ‘yeah’, ‘come on’, and ‘yo’, expertly interspersed with obscure references to pokemon, this guy was clearly an essential part in any song about the game. With this revelation, we came to the sad conclusion that we’d made a horrible omission in the final cut of our own attempt.

But we are sad no more, because today in the studio, we took half an hour out of our busy schedule recording Alex’s new album to make a few little additions to the song. Below is ‘Pokemon, What Happened To You’, with myself rapping throughout. We like to call it ”Pokemon, What Happened To You?’ What Happened To You?’.

'Pokemon, What Happened To You?' What Happened To You?

You can buy the original EP, with this song, albeit rapless, by clicking here.

Tom, have you had the pleasure of producing more than one EP about video games?!
And also, the rapping was fantastic. I especially enjoyed the intermediate laughter. Plus altogether your lines were just incredibly silly. Your future should obviously only consist of rap now. It's your destiny. (:

1) I remember that song! 'What Kind of Pokemon Are You?” It was on the 2.B.A. Master album! Damn…I'm going to be kickin' it old school all day now.

2) THAT WAS THE FUNNIEST RAP EVER! I was crying from laughing so hard. “I'm just agreeing now”. Brilliant!

LOLOL. 'JUST AGREEING NOW', 'MONOCHROME', and something about Nurse Joy's head and tits. Tom, you're amazingly ridiculous. Can Alex and I adopt you?

Also, 'What Kind of Pokémon Are You?' is fantastic.

I agree with some of what you are saying, although the general consensus about the pokémon games among hardcore red/blue veterans are that the gameplay and game mechanics has gotten better over the years but the quality of pokémon peaked in Gold and Silver. Although gold and Silver were my personal favorite games, I will always have a place deep down for Red and Blue. (although Yellow Pwns them both.)

also, actually, although you can name them whatever you want, ash and gary don't exist in the games. their official names are red and blue, respectively, (unless you're playing blue, then it's blue and red.)

I refuse to listen to this before I have the money to buy the EP without having listened to any of the songs before.
Actually: my computer with internet has no sound and my computer with sound has no internet.

But I'm sure it's lovely.

Once upon a time my friend and I wrote a play in which Ash and Misty are trapped in an elevator and then they get into a fight about how to get out, and the battle that ensues is so intense that the elevator falls millions of stories as Misty confesses that she was in love with Brock, but a Pidgeotto comes out of nowhere and saves them, but then the Pidgeotto takes off his costume and it turns out to Brock, who winks at Misty, causing her to faint, and with the absence of Misty's annoying voice, Brock feels okay about confessing his love to Ash, whereupon the two of them ride off into the sunset on a motorcycle that Brock stole from Officer Jenny in anger.

It's an awful lot like a Rube Goldberg cartoon, come to it.
